What people order for the first day
Most Staten Island schools go back the first week of September, and the orders start showing up here in the middle of August. Three things come up over and over.
- A first day treat for one kid. A half dozen Oreos with the grade on them, a pencil design, an apple, the school colors. Something for the after school table and the photo at the bus stop.
- A wrapped set for the whole class. One sealed treat per child, usually pretzel rods or Oreos, sometimes with the teacher's room number on them. Simple, easy to hand out, nothing to slice.
- A welcome gift for the teacher. A small box with the teacher's name on it. Different season than the spring gift, same idea.
Individually wrapped is the default for school
Anything going into a classroom gets sealed in its own bag and tied. That is how the schools want it and that is how it goes out. It also means the treats travel well in a backpack or a tote and they hold for days if the party gets pushed to Friday. Pretzel rods, Oreos and rice krispie treats are the three that hold up best in a warm September classroom. Cake pops and cakesicles are prettier but they want a cooler room, so those are better for a party at home or a table in the cafeteria.
School colors, names and numbers
Hand lettering is included, so the teacher's name, the room number, the grade or the school name costs nothing extra. Two colors is the right amount of theme. A school crest or a mascot is a different job, that is edible photo printing and it adds $10 to $15 a dozen. Printed mascots come out sharp and they are worth it for a PTA table or a staff room tray where people are going to notice.
Custom Oreos carry lettering better than anything else because the surface is flat. If you only order one item, order those.
How many to order
- One classroom, 22 to 28 kids: two and a half to three dozen wrapped treats, one per child plus a few extras for the office and the aide.
- Two classrooms or a small grade, 50 kids: four and a half dozen, or the Classic package at $225 split across four treat types.
- Back to school night or a PTA event, 60 to 80 adults: the Deluxe package at $325 with a dozen cakesicles as the centerpiece.
- One teacher gift: a half dozen Oreos or a small mixed box, quoted when you send the details.
The rule of thumb across every event is on the how many treats per person page. For a classroom, ignore the per-guest math and just count heads plus four.

The teacher gift, September version
The spring gift is a thank you at the end of a long year. The September one is smaller and it sets a tone. A half dozen Oreos with the teacher's name, a pencil and an apple design in the school colors, boxed. Parents who do this in September usually come back in May, so the teacher appreciation page is worth a look for the spring order.
Timing
Two to three weeks ahead. The last two weeks of August are the busiest stretch of the summer for school orders, so a text in the middle of August for a first week of September pickup lands in the right window. Treats are made fresh close to the date and picked up on Staten Island the day before or the morning of.
