The pattern is simple. Anything with a cream or cake center, like cakesicles and cake pops, has the shortest window and does best cold. The hand dipped items with a hard shell, like Oreos and pretzel rods, keep the longest and want to stay at room temperature.
What to refrigerate and what to leave out
The fridge is not a catch all here. Cold air carries moisture, and moisture is what dulls a shiny finish and softens a crisp shell. So the rule splits the tray in two.

Can you freeze custom treats
For decorated treats, freezing is not worth it. When a finished treat thaws, water beads on the surface and takes the shine and any lettering with it. The look you paid for is the first thing to go. Plain cake pop centers can be made ahead and frozen before they are dipped and decorated, but once a treat is finished, plan to keep it at room temperature or in the fridge and enjoy it inside the windows above.
Edible photo treats need a little more care
An edible photo treat has a printed sheet on the surface, and ink plus humidity do not mix. Keep photo treats at room temperature, out of direct sun, and eat them within one week. Skip the fridge for these, since the damp air can make the image bleed at the edges. Edible photo printing adds $10 to $15 per dozen, so it is worth protecting.
Getting them home from pickup
Pickup is on Staten Island, and the ride home is where most damage happens, not the counter. A few habits keep the tray perfect.
- Keep trays flat on a seat or the floor, never stacked or tilted.

- Run the air conditioning on a warm day and point a vent toward the treats.
- Bring cakesicles inside first and get them to a cool spot or the fridge right away.
